Greetings and welcome to the official website of Rising Sun Lodge No. 2, Prince Hall Affiliated, located in the historic city of Norfolk, Virginia. I am Worshipful Master Manuel N. Hammond Jr., and it is both my honor and privilege to extend a warm and fraternal greeting to all who visit our site—Masons, family, and friends alike.
We are deeply honored to labor under the distinguished leadership of The Honorable Most Worshipful George T. Cutler Jr., #80, Grand Master of the Most Worshipful Prince Hall Grand Lodge of Virginia, and Right Worshipful Michael Wilson, #2, District Deputy Grand Master of the 1st Masonic District, which proudly consists of eleven lodges. Their continued guidance, wisdom, and dedication serve as an inspiration to all Brothers across this great jurisdiction.
Our story began in 1844, when sixteen courageous freemen from the Norfolk area journeyed to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. There, they petitioned for admission into a Prince Hall Lodge and were duly entered, passed, and raised to the Sublime Degree of Master Masons. Later that same year, they sought a charter from the Grand Lodge of Pennsylvania to form a new lodge in Norfolk—to be known as Rising Sun Lodge. On June 15, 1845, that charter was granted, marking the birth of Rising Sun Lodge No. 2—the oldest Prince Hall Lodge in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Since that time, our Lodge has stood as a beacon of brotherly love, relief, and truth. We take great pride in our heritage and in the men who came before us—men of vision, faith, and integrity who laid a firm foundation for generations to come. Today, the Brothers of Rising Sun Lodge No. 2 continue that legacy by serving our community, supporting families, and striving to be upright men in all our undertakings.
